Research shows that a critical concern of a CEO today is to ensure that their organization has the right skills to compete.  World Economic Forum found that "77% of the CEOs we surveyed voiced concern that skills shortages could hinder their organization’s growth, and 52% plan to hire more employees over the next year."  Most leaders recognize that their organization is not equipped with the skills needed to be competitive.   To overcome this huge gap that these business face will require their organization to hire for skills or to develop existing talent to meet the capabilities of the future.

It is more expensive to hire a workforce to meet the skill required for your organization to be successful.  Why not develop your existing employees with the essential skills that you need?

Creating a learning culture, one that is adaptable and embraces new skills will ensure that your organization is prepared to meet the goals of the future.  

But you can't just dictate that your organization has a learning culture from the top.  Embracing a learning culture is the job of everyone.  Executive leaders must embrace development, provide employees with resources to continuously learn, and ensure that managers have a focus on development.

How do you develop your employees?  You should use a DiSC assessment as the foundation for understanding your employees’ leadership trait and natural tendencies.  This can help you to understand how to help your employees thrive by playing to their strengths.  When you properly utilize the strength of your employees, your company will be able to grow and achieve their performance objectives.  These assessments are such an important part of your job in developing your employees. Utilizing the DiSC assessment, you can create realistic development goals for your employees. 

You should also have regular meetings with your employees.  This provides you an opportunity to interact with your employees and address any problems that may need immediate attention.  This can also help strengthen the bond between leadership and the employees.  Employees can ask questions to management directly during these meetings, which can help them to be more productive at the company.  Use these meetings to also offer learning opportunities for everyone at the company. Learning better teamwork skills can create a foundation of trust and respect among everyone at the company.

Delegating responsibilities are an essential part of developing employees.  At some point, you need to trust that you hired the best staff possible for your company, and share the responsibilities with them so that you can focus on running the business. The more that you can delegate, the more you can think about how you can grow your business.  Additionally, by delegating more to your employees, you are showing them that you trust them with greater responsibilities.
